OVERVIEW
Join this amazing community of volunteers who empower learners in South Los Angeles. The Wooten Center hosts after-school tutoring, Summer tutoring and programming, college access workshops, and more.
IMPACT
By becoming a tutor with the Wooten Center, you will provide quality programming, personalized instruction, and a world of opportunities for students in grades 3-12 in the South Los Angeles area. With your help, we can fight learning losses and close the achievement gap.
VOLUNTEER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteers are needed to serve as one-on-one tutors to follow the i-Ready curriculum. This easy-to-follow and intuitive program is evidence-based and directly targets students' individual needs. If tutoring isn't quite right for you, but you'd like to help out with other programming (like gardening, art, mentoring etc), please express interest!
WHY
The pandemic has exacerbated educational inequities in Los Angeles and students who fall behind often never catch up. You can be the one-on-one support that a student needs to learn!
REQUIREMENTS
- Once or twice weekly (but this is flexible depending on your role)
- No tutoring experience is required!
- Access to a computer with internet, including audio/visual capabilities.
- Will require a brief interview, an orientation, and a background check.
