Wildfire Mitigation – Elysian Park Brush Clearing
Help protect our community from wildfire risk by clearing brush and removing debris.
Why: Your time and effort will directly reduce the risk of wildfires and help protect local homes, wildlife habitats, and ecosystems. The space is not in a burn area, but by volunteering, you’ll make a lasting impact on community safety and resilience.
Who: L.A. Works mobilizes volunteers to tackle critical issues in the Los Angeles area. Through opportunities like this, we empower community members to take action toward environmental sustainability and disaster prevention, while building a safer, healthier future for all.
What to Expect: Volunteers will assist in creating defensible spaces that reduce fire hazards and promote safer environments:
- Help clear brush and debris to create defensible spaces.
- Remove vegetation and fallen branches in designated areas.
- Work alongside a team of volunteers to reduce wildfire risks in vulnerable zones.
What’s Required:
- Time/shift commitment: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
- Physical demands: Ability to be in the sun for several hours.
- Safety protocols:
- Wear an N-95 or P-100 mask to protect against debris and particulates.
- At a minimum, wear gloves, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, sturdy close-toed shoes (ie: boots), and socks to avoid skin contact.
- Make sure to bring a filled water bottle and sun protection (sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc).
- Option to bring safety goggles.
- A positive attitude and readiness to work outdoors!
