Volunteer Leader Training: Wildfire Prevention and Protection
A virtual training for volunteers who want to help lead wildfire prevention and protection efforts to mitigate the risk of rapidly spreading fires
Why: Wildfires are a natural part of many ecosystems, playing a key role in the evolution of forests and grasslands. However, as we build homes in areas prone to wildfires, these structures fall within the “wildland urban interface” (WUI) and are vulnerable to destruction. We can help mitigate this risk by harnessing the power of community volunteers to create defensible spaces that reduce fire hazards and promote safer environments.
Who: Since 1991, L.A. Works has mobilized and organized tens of thousands of volunteers each year in order to unite Angelenos and inspire action for a more equitable LA. And, as a board member of the Emergency Network of LA, L.A. Works is the link between nonprofits, government agencies and spontaneous volunteers.
What: Become prepared to engage in cleaning up L.A. and protecting our community from wildfire risk by clearing manageable brush and removing debris in neighborhoods like your own. The training will equip you to become a project leader and will help you gain the skills, knowledge, and tools to organize and lead volunteers effectively, ensuring safety and success. Your time and effort will directly help us mobilize hundreds of volunteers to reduce the risk of wildfires and help protect local homes, wildlife habitats, and ecosystems. NOTE: This opportunity does not relate to cleanup of any fire-damaged properties or areas where government-led cleanup is required for safety reasons.
