Help Bring Back Ballona Wetlands (for World Wetlands Day)!
Celebrate World Wetlands Day by rolling up your sleeves with the Friends of Ballona Wetlands to help restore Los Angeles’ last coastal wetland. This event is hosted in partnership with California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers, Office of the Governor.
Why: The Ballona Wetlands play a vital role in maintaining a healthy environment and balanced ecosystem. As Los Angeles’ last coastal wetland, their role in millions of birds’ migratory route, ability to break down toxins from urban runoff, and the educational resource they provide for Angelenos could not be greater.
Who: Friends of Ballona Wetlands have been fighting to restore and protect 51 acres of freshwater lands since 1978. The Friends’ history of advocacy through activism, working with other NGOs, and creating community restoration and educational programs established the organization as a leading voice in preserving the Ballona Wetlands.
What to Expect: Get hands-on experience while learning about urban ecology. The time and effort you put in to clear out invasive vegetation gives slow-growing native plants room to thrive. We will be removing invasive tocalote, crown daisy, and euphorbia plants.
What's Required:

Time/shift commitment: 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Physical demands: Physical labor and ability to be in the sun for several hours.

Dress code: Please wear outdoor/garden-appropriate clothing, like long-sleeved shirts, long, loose pants, and close-toed shoes.

Safety protocols: Make sure to bring a filled water bottle. There are no water fountains on site. All other tools and supplies will be provided.
