Volunteer at your local food banks! – LA Regional Food Bank

Become a Volunteer with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and make a positive impact in your community by providing food to families and individuals experiencing food insecurity in Los Angeles County.

WHY:
Since its inception in 1973, the Food Bank has acquired and distributed more than 1.9 billion pounds of food and grocery products, the equivalent of 1.6 billion meals. The Food Bank collects food from hundreds of resources. With the help of 16,000 volunteers annually and an agency network of more than 600 partner agencies, we serve more than 900,000 people on a monthly basis.

WHO:
The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has worked to mobilize resources in the community to alleviate hunger, source nutritious food to distribute to people who experience food insecurity, and energize the community to get involved!

WHAT TO EXPECT:
The role of this Volunteer opportunity is to inspect, sort, and pack food boxes at one of our two warehouse facilities in the City of Industry and Los Angeles, CA.

Responsibilities Include:

· Food Sorting: Volunteers help sort through donated food items, categorize them, and check for expiration dates to ensure the quality and safety of items.

· Food Packaging: Volunteers help assemble food boxes made up of shelf-stable items to be distributed at a later time.

· Distribution Assistance: Volunteers help distribute food items to clients at pop-up food distribution events throughout LA.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Minimum Age:18+

· Be able to participate during the entire shift. Shifts are typically 3 hours long.

· Wear closed-toed shoes

· Volunteers must be able to lift, push, and pull up food boxes weighing up to 36 lbs.
