Become a Volunteer Leader for MLK Day
Take action by becoming a volunteer leader at the MLK Day Volunteer Festival to support our Beloved Community and honor Dr. King’s legacy.
WHY: Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community. It breaks down barriers by bringing people from different backgrounds together and it benefits those who choose to serve. By becoming a volunteer leader, you’ll help ensure that more than 1500 Angelenos can successfully come together in service on this day.
WHO: L.A. Works strives to unite Angelenos and inspire action for a more equitable Los Angeles.
WHAT TO EXPECT: You’ll help participants at the festival to move freely through the event to:
- Volunteer to address critical issues of food insecurity, homelessness, education equity, and economic opportunity;
- Learn about ways to support and advocate for the community year-round;
- Hear from special speakers;
- Enjoy food for purchase; and
- Impact Zones to create blankets, book bundles, job readiness notebooks, food packets, and more to be distributed to nonprofit partners serving vulnerable Angelenos primarily in South LA;
- Intergenerational Volunteer Zone for family friendly volunteer activities;
- MLK Legacy Project to create installations for schools and nonprofits across LA;
- Minecraft March on Washington video game truck to “meet” and learn about activists from the1963 march to today; and the
- Sponsor VIP Zone for activities specially designed and led for teams.
WHAT'S REQUIRED: As a leader, we’ll ask you to arrive at the event early (9:30AM) to assist with the event set-up and get trained on your project area.
BENEFITS TO BEING A PROJECT LEADER: You'll be in charge of managing a group of volunteers or an activity which involves strong communication, organization, and leadership skills. This experience will stand out on your CV (and help you in life)! PLUS the parking fee will be covered and leaders will be provided lunch, snacks, and free merch.
