Share Your Job Experience with Young Adults accepted to the Elevate Program
*All Workshops will be on Zoom
OVERVIEW:
L.A. Works is recruiting volunteers to support young adults (17 to 24) who have been accepted into the Elevate Program. From underserved communities in Los Angeles, these young adults applied based on a strong desire to improve their lives through better employment and potential career tracks. Each accepted applicant receives training and employment placement leading up to the workshops. Then, our workshop curriculum and volunteers, like yourself, will give applicants new career skills they can use and apply the next work day at their new job. Your hour or two spent in these workshops could pay dividends in our community for generations to come!
This project is part of L.A. Works' Workforce Development initiative, which strives to support underserved Angelenos who need genuine help and guidance with career and job skills. We’re here to help young adults who have not yet found guidance regarding their potential, career opportunities, and future. If you had someone help you with these questions or remember how you found the answers on your own, we could use an hour or more of your time to pass that knowledge on to others!
THE ELEVATE PROGRAM MISSION:
The Elevate Program combines our workshop series with job placement services to better equip young adult applicants (ages 17 to 24) with new job skills and the opportunity to use them in a practical setting. Our applicants came to the program from low-income households and underserved communities in Los Angeles. It is our mission that these workshops help these young adults keep their employment and advance in the future. This is the support and guidance, so many young adults struggle to find, and each of your volunteer hours can make all the difference in the success of our mission.
VOLUNTEER ROLES NEEDED:
We’re recruiting volunteers who can participate in one or more workshops during the series. You may sign-up for a single workshop or multiple workshops. It is up to you. You will receive video training that you can complete on your own time in the week leading up to your workshop. You will have the support of staff to answer questions before the workshop and staff leading the workshop curriculum so that you only need to focus on imparting your personal experience to applicants who are eager to hear from you.
This page is specifically recruiting volunteers for our first 3 Workshops (Please see dates and times in the drop-down menu for each):
WORKSHOP 1: GOAL SETTING
Led and supported by staff, you will teach applicants how to set short and long-term goals, and together we will equip them with tools to achieve those goals.
WORKSHOP 2: WORKPLACE BEHAVIOR & SELF-ADVOCATING
Led and supported by staff, you will work with applicants on how to conduct themselves in the workplace professionally. They will also learn their employment rights and how to advocate for themselves if their rights are violated.
WORKSHOP 3: WORKING WITH DIFFERENT PERSONALITY TYPES
Led and supported by staff, you will help applicants understand the different personality types they may encounter and how to work harmoniously with various types of people.
