MudTown Farms Free Produce Giveaway at Watts Labor Community Action Committee
Help sort and distribute produce to community members in Watts! We operate every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month and distribute over 17,000lbs of produce each event!
Why:
MudTown Farms is a program by the Watts Labor Community Action Committee. We distribute over 17,000 lbs of free produce to over 200 families and 12 agencies per event on average in a food desert. We believe in just food access and that no family should be deprived of fresh produce regardless of location or socioeconomic status.
What's Expected:
- Sort and pack rescued produce into bags
- Sort compostable produce into bins to be composted at our farm site
- Help distribute produce to community members at our drive-through
- Break down boxes
What's Required:
Some physical labor (some work includes repeatedly lifting boxes up to 40lbs with help) and standing is involved but the ability is always considered and there is always something to do!
Accessiblity:
Wheelchair Accessible.
Additional Information:
Please wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty! A water bottle is also recommended. On sunny days, a hat and/or sunblock is recommended if you wish to help with our drive-through work as it gets sunny. Gloves, extra masks, and training will be provided.
We always need volunteers to help, and it's a great opportunity to connect with community members and see the literal fruits of your labor in action! Volunteers are also welcome to bring home a bag of produce for themselves! Follow us on Instagram!
