Learn About and Install Drip Irrigation at Tujunga Welcome Garden is hosted by Sunland-Tujunga Forward and FORM LA. Join us in developing new skills and helping green this land!
Why: Your volunteer efforts will not only allow you to develop skills that you can use in your own gardens, but will also help in the restoration of this section of land. This garden is a part of the City of LA Adopt a Median Program. By installing this irrigation system, you will help make this land fire resilient and prepare it for planting native plants.
Who: L.A. Works is teaming up with Sunland-Tujunga Forward to host a workshop about drip irrigation, followed by installing an irrigation system at the Tujunga Welcome Garden of Resilience and Inclusion, a native plant and public art space. Sunland-Tujunga Forward is a community organization that focuses on creating spaces for collaborative action centering equity, inclusion, and transformative relationships.
What's Expected: Volunteers will participate in a 30 minute workshop to learn about drip irrigation, followed by an installation of 200 feet of irrigation.
What's Required:
- Time/shift commitment: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
- Physical demands: Ability to be in the sun for several hours. Must be 18 years or older.
- Dress code: We recommend that volunteers wear outdoor/garden-appropriate clothing, including sunglasses, long-sleeved shirts, long, loose pants, and sturdy, close-toed walking shoes with long, thick socks.
- Safety protocols: Make sure to bring a filled water bottle and sun protection (sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc).
- Directions: The worksite is located at the corner of Pali and Foothill Blvd, across from the DIY Center
This opportunity is managed by an L.A. Works partner, Sunland-Tujunga Forward.
