Wildfire Resources Center Welcome & Data Entry Volunteers

Volunteer to use your hospitality and basic computer skills to create a warm welcome for individuals and families seeking resources following the wildfires.
Why: Volunteering in this role means survivors will receive a warm welcome, be able to access more resources and supplies for their recovery and that the operation will run more smoothly for all.

Who: L.A. Works is partnering with the Emergency Network of Los Angeles (ENLA), and national, state and local community-based organizations to provide resources and services to wildfire survivors.

What to Expect: 

• Volunteers will be stationed near the entrance of the Center to welcome pre-registered individuals as they arrive onsite.
• These welcoming volunteers should be able to use tablets, laptops or other devices (provided by the staff for volunteers to use on shift) to register people, check them in, or otherwise input information to devices to serve the operation and the survivors who have come for help as needed.
• What’s Provided For All Volunteers:
  • Breaks, snacks and a meal
  • Volunteer Nametag (First Name, Initial)
  • Easy parking onsite
  • Possibility of rotating roles if needed

What’s Required:

• Experience using a tablet or laptop to enter information into forms, navigate between pages or applications, and opening and closing applications
• Customer Service/Hospitality Focus when interacting with others
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
• Compassion and Patience
• Welcoming and positive attitude
• Able to follow directions
• Arrive on time and stay for the duration of the shift
• Check out with Volunteer Captain before leaving shift

• Volunteers should be aware that it may be difficult to see the devastation inside of the burn area and choose whether or not to volunteer in consideration of the location.
• Making a commitment to this role is especially important in this case as we will need to make special arrangements with authorities. Only volunteers who can commit to showing up for their shifts should sign up. 
• Volunteers should plan to spend an extra 15-30 minutes before shift time for navigating checkpoints.
