Shine LA - Beautify a School in Palms
Volunteer to beautify Palms Middle School and get to know other great people in L.A.
Why: Join the Office of Mayor Karen Bass, community partners, and volunteers from across the city for Service Day LA: Together, LA Shines — a citywide day of service dedicated to cleaning and greening our neighborhoods in honor of Earth Day! Volunteer alongside Mayor Bass and your neighbors to help make Los Angeles shine, preparing our city for the world stage. Take pride in your neighborhood and be part of the movement to make LA its best!
Who: Join Mayor Karen Bass, and other elected officials who will be joining the Friends of Palms Middle School, Palms student groups, the Palms Neighborhood Council, Move LA, Painters Union District Council 36 apprentices, UCLA student volunteers and a host of additional organizations and individuals, including you, we hope. Come join us.
What to Expect:- By volunteering together we want to shine a light on the Palms Middle school and its grounds and perk it up by cleaning and greening the campus.
- The Friends of Palms Middle School is a hardworking organization that is committed to the success of their school and their students in every way and they have been putting together a list of cleaning and greening projects that will be activated that day.
- We have tree plantings, gardening, landscaping, painting and cleaning all through the campus.
- You can become an apprentice to a Painters Union Apprentice on the projects they are leading.
- The Mayor and her bus will join us on a project as well to help make the campus shine.
- Time/shift commitment: 2-3 hours between 10 AM - 2 PM

Physical demands: Ability to be in the sun for several hours.

Dress code: We recommend that volunteers wear long-sleeved shirts, long, loose pants, and sturdy, close-toed walking shoes. Hats and sunglasses recommended. Older clothes if you are willing to do some painting.

Safety protocols: Make sure to bring a filled water bottle and sun protection
