Support Fire Survivors at the Pasadena Wildfire Resource Center
The need is still there: A new Wildfire Resource Center is opening in Pasadena to support survivors of the Eaton and other fires in Los Angeles. This is a large event and we are looking for volunteers to fill hundreds of shift spots between May 10th-19th.
Why: Volunteers with a “put me in, coach” attitude can assist with any number of roles that will ensures that the operation will run more smoothly for all and that survivors will be treated as individuals deserving compassion while accessing resources and supplies for their recovery.
What to Expect: There are a variety of essential roles which will contribute to the overall success of the Center. Review the below and during registration, select various checkboxes to help us place you onsite.
Site Set Up: Select Saturday, May 10th if you are available to help prepare the site, moving tables, chairs, and other light lifting required.
Check In:
- Volunteers will be stationed near the entrance of the Center to welcome pre-registered individuals as they arrive onsite.
- These welcoming volunteers should be able to use an IPad (provided by the staff for volunteers to use on shift) to register people, check them in, or otherwise input information to devices to serve the operation and the survivors who have come for help as needed.
- Bilingual Spanish, Armenian, Russian, ASL a plus.
- Ambassador Volunteers will greet and assist survivors as they navigate the space by being friendly and compassionate, leading them to their resource table and in some cases, staying with a survivor throughout their visit if they need interpretation, have mobility or other access needs, or need some extra emotional support.
- This role can be difficult - interacting with survivors experiencing significant loss can be heavy for volunteers. We will give breaks and support to volunteers as needed.
- Bilingual Spanish, Armenian, Russian, ASL a plus.
- Supplies will be distributed during this event and volunteers can help ensure a smooth operation by assisting survivors with supplies and even taking them to their cars for easy transport whenever possible.
- Volunteers who don’t mind being mostly outdoors, can move easily and nimbly around the outdoor space (parking lot), and who can lift and move 20-30lbs of supplies as needed are well-suited for this role.
- Direct the flow of individuals coming to the Center through traffic control and wayfinding.
- Serve as a Site Area Captain to oversee and be main point of contact for volunteers in different areas of the site
- Getting or gathering supplies needed within the Center
- Relieving another volunteer for a break or lunch
