Community Exchange Volunteer

Help build capacity at the Hollywood Food Coalition.

Why: Hollywood Food Coalition’s Community Exchange Program rescues food and other donated goods and re-distributes them to our partner nonprofit organizations who serve the community in need. Volunteers directly help nutritious and high-quality food that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill reach food insecure folks consistently. 

Who: Hollywood Food Coalition's mission is to feed and serve the immediate needs of the hungry every night of the year so they can build better lives. Our vision is a city where everyone has food, community, and support. For 37 years, we have served a hot, nutritious dinner every night of the year to homeless and food insecure individuals. All our food is donated, and we share thousands of pounds of excess food with partner social service organizations all across the city.

• Volunteers assist warehouse coordinator and assistant, liaison between staff and volunteers, put together tickets, weigh food, sort & weigh food, repackage and store items.
• Volunteers also may load vehicles, interact with recipients, unload vehicles, and interact with donors. 
• Making sure that the warehouse is clean and orderly is also always needed. 
• Training will be provided.

• This volunteer opportunity requires standing for long hours and lifting at least 50 lbs.
• The minimum age to volunteer without adult supervision for any activity is 15. 
• The Hollywood Food Coalition is currently unable to sign off on court ordered volunteer hours
• Able to take direction from the staff but also work with minimal exposure and having the flexibility of doing different tasks depending on the circumstances are qualities we are looking for. 
• Dress Code: Due to safety concerns from working in a warehouse environment, we require all staff and volunteers to wear: 
  • Comfortable, closed-toed safe footwear (NO open toe-d shoes, sandals, heels etc. are allowed) 
  • Long pants that covers your legs
  • T-shirts or long sleeve shirts (NO sleeveless shirts or tank tops are allowed)
  • Please leave your purses, jewelry, and other valuables at home or locked in your trunk.
  • Necklaces and long earrings are not allowed
