Project Leaders: 9/11 Day of Service at the VA!

Become a project leader to support and honor L.A. Veterans by assembling essential kits, distributing food, organizing clothing, and bringing joy through games at this day of service.

Why: On this National Day of Service, join L.A. Works and VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System’s Center for Development and Civic Engagement to honor Veterans through hands-on volunteer activities including food and clothing distribution, assembling disaster kits, and brunch with Veterans. Additional activities include a nonprofit resource fair and intergenerational games. Serve, connect, and uplift the community through impactful action.

Who: As a project leader, you will partner alongside L.A. Works and the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System Center for Development and Civic Engagement to honor Veterans that they serve.

• As a project leader, you will help lead/manage volunteers in doing the following projects:
  • Set-up station and Assembly of 2,000 Disaster Preparedness/Hygiene Kits
  • Set-up station for Clothing Drive, organize and sort through clothing according to size and types
  • Set-Up station and distribute food to Veterans arriving at 11am. (Cafeteria style for Brunch)
  • Set-Up Bingo Game, distribute cards, lead bingo game & giveaways for the Veterans at 12pm.
• As a project leader you may also be asked to do the following:
  • Help unload the L.A. Works van and set up the various projects/activities.
  • Ensure volunteers are working safely, efficiently, and are having fun!

• No experience necessary! Training will be provided day-of!
• Must be comfortable with hands-on physical work (i.e. standing for long periods of time, sorting, packing, etc). These projects require minimal bending-down. There will be chairs provided for breaks volunteers as well.
• Adults should be able to lift up to 15lbs (or ask for other tasks by emailing the Opportunity Coordinator).
• You will be working outside, so it is recommended to wear sunscreen and dress accordingly/comfortable!
• All volunteers are encouraged to wear a mask if desired, but not required.
• Snacks and water will be provided.
