Community Work Day at La Esquinita

Join us at the La Esquinita Garden Park  as L.A.Works hosts a community work day event at this beautiful ethnobotanical garden.

• Contribute to maintaining the vibrant ethnobotanical garden that highlights plants with cultural, medicinal, and ecological significance.
• Gain familiarity with herbs that can be used for tea, food, and medicine.
• Contribute to taking  Climate Action by  improving the green space, be part of a connected community that promotes biodiversity, sustainability and strengthening community connections.

Who: Test Plot is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build a land ethic based on cultural care and ecological stewardship. This ethnobotanical garden is a living classroom, fostering awareness about the cultural and medicinal uses of plants while strengthening local biodiversity.

• Maintaining the thriving garden: By caring for the plants.
• Weeding and  Watering: Support the newly planted species to ensure successful growth.
• Mulching: Learn how mulching supports plant health, conserves water, and nurtures soil microbes.
• We will provide tools, snacks and water. A restroom facility is nearby.

• Physical demands: Ability to be in the sun and perform light physical activity for several hours.
• Dress code: We recommend that volunteers wear comfortable outdoor/garden-appropriate clothing that can get dirty and closed toed shoes.
• Safety protocols: Make sure to bring a filled water bottle and sun protection (sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc).
• A positive attitude and readiness to work outdoors.                 

Note: If you can’t join this event, we will be hosting monthly work days throughout the upcoming year where volunteers learn to grow and use these plants.
