Tutor a Child on Skid Row - Volunteers Needed!
We are looking for caring, creative individuals who can volunteer with us in our afterschool classroom, ensuring that our students have individualized academic and mentorship support.
Why: The Skid Row Learning Center is a designed to address the education needs for children who live in the immediate community, in shelters, vehicles and the street. We provide a safe, comfortable learning space for children to thrive and receive extra support on their homework and academics. By volunteering at the Skid Row Learning Center, you are making a direct impact on the children in one of the most vulnerable areas in Los Angeles.
Who: Since 1993, the mission of School on Wheels has never wavered: to enhance educational opportunities for children who are experiencing homelessness from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our goal is to shrink the gaps in their learning and provide them with the highest level of education possible. Our program serves as a consistent support system for our students during a time of great stress and fear.
What to Expect: Volunteers support in the following ways:- Provide individualized homework help during afterschool programming
- Help with activities (arts and crafts, STEM workshops, field trips, etc)
- Play games and develop positive relationships with the students
- Age 18 and older
- Live in California
- Be able to volunteer in downtown Los Angeles between the hours of 2:30pm - 5:30pm on weekdays
- Able to complete Livescan check
