RePurpose: Turn Thrift Into Impact
Join Central Lutheran at the RePurpose Thrift Fundraiser to help fund our out community outreach goals!
Why: RePurpose is more than a thrift fundraiser — it’s a gateway into everything Central does. The funds generated here support food distribution, youth programs, immigrant support, and community outreach, and the relationships built here often connect neighbors and volunteers to deeper involvement across all our programs.Who: Central Lutheran strengthens the Van Nuys community through weekly food distributions (600–700 households), English classes, a community garden, vital resources, and our annual Joy Events—volunteer-powered celebrations that uplift and connect our neighbors.
What to Expect:
- Sorting, organizing, and preparing clothing donations
- Merchandising and restocking inventory
- Assisting and engaging with shoppers
- Pricing items (as trained)
- Light lifting (clothing racks, donation bags, boxes)
- Maintaining a clean, welcoming, and organized space
- Assisting with setup and breakdown as needed
- Must be 18 years old (or specify your minimum age if different)
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods
- Comfortable lifting light to moderate weight (clothing bags, boxes, racks up to approximately 25 lbs)
- Friendly, respectful, and comfortable interacting with diverse community members
- Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively in a team environment
- Punctual and reliable — especially for volunteers committing to recurring shifts
- No prior retail experience is required, but consistency and a positive attitude are essential.
- Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. This is an active, hands-on environment.
- We especially welcome individuals who are able to commit to a consistent weekly shift.
