Pull, Protect, Plant: Franklin Canyon
Join the Mountain Recreation & Conservation Authority for a rewarding canyon clean-up & planting at Franklin Canyon!
Why: Efforts will support the upkeep of a canyon park location in the popular Beverly Hills area that supports expansive picnic grounds, over five miles of hiking trails and serves as a home for birds in the Pacific flyaway. Volunteers will learn about conservation and plant life of park hills that have a history steeped in the forces that created the bustling metropolis of Los Angeles—oil and water.
Who: This event is in collaboration with Mountain Recreation & Conservation Authority. The MRCA is dedicated to the preservation and management of local open space and parkland, wildlife habitat, coastal access, watershed lands, and trails in both wilderness and urban settings, and to ensuring access to public parkland and coastal resources.
What to Expect:- Clean up
- Weeding
- Planting
- All Volunteers will receive safety training and garden tools (ex. gloves, hand-tools, etc.) to complete projects.
- We will provide light snacks and water.
- Volunteers will help us with maintenance and restoration projects for about 3 hours.
- Be prepared to have and get your hands dirty!
- Physical demands:
- Ability to be in the sun and perform light physical activity for several hours.
- Bending, lifting, pulling, digging with tools.
- Age Requirements:
- Volunteers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
- Tasks are best suited for people who are 10 years of age or older.
- Safety protocols: Please bring plenty of drinking water for yourself as well as ample sun protection.
- Note: We will provide additional driving instructions to the exact location closer to the date.
