Grow Together at MudTown
Sign up for a 5-week workshop series to earn the skills needed to support an urban farm while growing food for an underserved community! The workshops will run every Thursday in April.
Why: MudTown Farm is building a beautiful sustainable urban farm that will serve the community for years to come. By joining Grow Together at MudTown you can support legacy of environmental stewardship, food justice and community empowerment while gaining practical skills you can carry to strengthen your own neighborhood.
Who: Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC) developed the 2.5-acre farm in an effort to strengthen access to a healthy, community-based food system. Today, MudTown serves as a hub for environmental justice, education and economic opportunities that bring agricultural sustainability practices to Watts and South Los Angeles.
What to Expect:- Each weekly, hands-on workshop will cover a new skill:
- April 2nd- Horticulture Techniques & Urban Farming Considerations
- April 9th - Soil and Composting Fundamentals
- April 16th - Seed Starting, Transplanting, Watering, Crop Planning
- April 23rd - Pruning Techniques
- April 30th - Pest Management Strategies
- Commit to attending all five workshops as each week will build on the next!
- Please bring a water bottle and wear sun protection
- Wear comfortable clothes and closed- toed shoes you don’t mind moving around in and getting dirty
- No gardening experience or tools needed — just a willingness to learn and work hard!
