Native Garden Event
This event will focus on renovating our current garden at one of our trinity sites, Christ the Good Shepherd. We will convert the garden from an edible garden to a native garden.
Why: Seeds of Hope wishes to expand climate action efforts through a community garden in a cemented landscape that would help sequester carbon emissions, improve biodiversity in the dense urban area, and provide the community with a natural sanctuary to learn about all the potential therapeutic and environmental benefits of green spaces. This project would focus on bringing together volunteers for a day of climate education and rejuvenation.
Who: Seeds of Hope is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles which seeks to Cultivate Wellness in our community. We provide garden-based nutrition education and practical cooking instruction to help our friends and neighbors live healthier. We also work with congregations, communities, and schools to transform unused land in to productive, lovely gardens and orchards to provide fresh and nutritious food in areas of need across the six-county diocese.
What to Expect: Volunteers will work in revolving teams and partipate in various activities such as:- Gleaning and pruning cirtus trees
- Building elevated garden beds Installing irrigation
- Planting native plants
- Weeding and mulching
- Composting
- This is an outdoor event. Volunteers should bring water, sun protection and closed-toe shoes.
- No prior experience is necessary—just motivation, reliability, and a willingness to help.
- Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer.
