May 2026 Community Garden Day at an LAUSD Elementary School!
Come get your hands dirty with Garden School Foundation at our next Community Garden Day on Saturday, May 30th from 9am-12pm!
Why: As a GSF volunteer, you'll play a indispensable role in helping us complete a renovation at one of our largest garden sites! We're installing new crop rows that will greatly expand our capacity to grow fresh produce to distribute back to the school community. This garden renovation will enhance local food security because our produce will be shared directly with student families through the school, removing significant time, cost, and transportation barriers to food access.
Who: Garden School Foundation provides in-depth garden-based education to youth at Title I schools in Los Angeles, strengthening connections between food justice, environmental stewardship, and community health. By using the full transformative potential of school gardens as teaching sites, we nurture a healthy and mindful generation of children who care for their bodies, their communities, and the earth. We currently serve eleven Title I elementary schools, reaching over 3,800 students and their families each year.
What to Expect:- Together you'll work alongside GSF staff and school families to weed the garden, refresh mulch pathways, harvest, build new raised beds, install crop rows, and more!
- Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
- Volunteers of all ages and experience levels, from beginning to Master Gardener, are welcome.
- We provide all the tools and training. All you need to join in is a desire to help out and a willingness to learn.
- Volunteers should wear close-toe shoes and loose, comfy clothes that are school-appropriate.
- We encourage volunteers to bring their own water bottles and sun protection.
- There is ample street parking by the school.
- GSF will have a table set up in front of the school where we will check you in and ask you to sign our Volunteer Waiver.
- Many of our garden beds are ADA-compliant and parts of the garden are accessible to wheelchairs. Pathways for the central garden are mulch.
