Monday Weekly Food Distribution Volunteer – Central (Van Nuys)
Join us every Monday at Central Lutheran in Van Nuys as we serve 500–700 households through our weekly food distribution. Volunteers play a critical role in ensuring neighbors facing food insecurity receive fresh produce, pantry staples, and essential support in a welcoming, organized environment.
Why: Your time helps stabilize families who would otherwise choose between groceries, rent, or medication. By showing up, you’re not just handing out food — you’re reducing stress, preserving dignity, and helping hundreds of households stretch their limited income for another week.
Who: Central Lutheran strengthens the Van Nuys community through weekly food distributions (600–700 households), English classes, a community garden, vital resources, and our annual Joy Events—volunteer-powered celebrations that uplift and connect our neighbors.
What to Expect: This is a hands-on, team-based role in a fast-paced, high-impact environment focused on serving our community with care and respect.- Handing items to individuals
- Sorting and organizing food
- Packing produce and pantry items
- Setting up distribution areas
- Greeting neighbors
- Managing check-in flow
- Distributing food boxes
- Restocking stations
- Helping with clean-up
- Must be 18 years or older
- Volunteers should ideally be able to stand for extended periods (breaks are welcome and encouraged) and lift boxes up to 25–30 lbs, though flexibility is available depending on assigned tasks
- This is an active, primarily outdoor role requiring comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes
- A positive, respectful attitude toward diverse community members is essential
- Spanish language skills are highly valued but not required
