Golden Age Garden/Park Renovation
The Neighborhood Land Trust received funds to remove the wooden raised beds and replace them with new aluminum beds, a new shed and a new compost bin! Help bring much needed love and attention to our Golden Age Garden!
Why: The Golden Age Garden has been serving the community for over 10 years and families have been growing their own food since then! With these new beds, you will be removing old rotted wood, building in new defenses againts vermin and other critters who eat the veggies and herbs member grow and building new, secure aluminum raised beds. With more gardening space and height! Visually the impact will be drastic and beautiful!
Who: The Neighborhood Land Trust is the leading nonprofit working to create urban parks and gardens in the Los Angeles region. Our mission is to grow healthier, safer and stronger communities by creating small, accessible urban parks and gardens that help remedy the critical lack of green and recreational spaces in greater Los Angeles’ underserved neighborhoods, and to ensure participation and collaboration among low-income residents throughout the process of envisioning, building and managing the parks and gardens we create.
What to Expect:- Volunteers will be fed a light breakfast and issues a pair of gloves. All tools will be provided and made available.
- Join us for one or all 3 garden workdays
- Task are broken down by date (see below)
- Empty the current wooden beds.
- Relocate existing soil into heavy-duty bags or a temporary containment area to keep paths clear.
- Dismantle and remove the rotting wooden structures to open up the footprint for the new aluminum beds.
- Assemble aluminum beds
- Implement rodent prevention measures while the ground is clear.
- Begin filling beds with new and old soil.
- Add decompose granite to paths
- Mulch Park space
- Organize the shed with new tools
- Re-opening of garden!
- Invite the families back to replant their saved specimens
- Start new seeds!
- Celebrate with us!
- Please wear comfortable clothing, sun protection like a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a reusable water bottles.
- No gardening experience needed. Must be comfortable getting dirty, using gardenign tools and assembling items.
- Refill available on site.
