Mentor a First-Gen High School Student in LA — Saturdays, No Experience Required
A student's zip code shouldn't decide whether they get to college - you can be the person who helps change that by volunteering as a Minds matter SoCal Mentor.

Mentors are the consistent, caring presence that makes that journey possible.
Who: Minds Matter connects driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world
What to Expect: As a mentor, you'll be a trusted guide and champion for high-achieving students. Paired with a co-mentor in a small group ("quad"), you will:- Attend Saturday sessions (12:15–2:30 PM) alongside your mentees
- Check in briefly with your quad (virtually) each week between sessions
- Support your students as they build confidence, develop life skills, and navigate high school and the college application journey
- 2–3 hours per week from August through May (Attend at least 80% of Saturday sessions from 12:15–2:30 PM a brief weekly check-in with your quad)
- Complete onboarding (provided by Minds Matter SoCal)
- College Degree
- Must be 18 or older; background check required before working with student

You'll receive training and ongoing support from a team of leads, coaches, and staff — no prior mentoring experience needed.
