Food Scraps Collection: Hollywood Farmers' Market
Save food waste from the landfill and turn it into finished compost!
Why: By volunteering with LA Compost, you can help keep food scraps out of landfills, where they produce methane, and instead turn them into nutrient-rich compost that nourishes healthy soils, supports local green spaces, and helps build more resilient ecosystems.
Who: LA Compost works to restore lost connections to the soil and one another. As a community based non-profit, we support a healthy transition where food is never wasted, but returned to the soil for the next cycle of life.
What to Expect:- Throughout your shift, you'll be guided by an experienced LA Compost staff member, who will act as your Compost Manager, offering insights and helping you share the benefits of composting with the public.
- The best part is that during your volunteer shift, you can take some time to shop the market.
- As a volunteer, you’ll play a hands-on role in guiding market-goers through composting, ensuring their food scraps are clean of stickers, compostable, and ready to be turned into nutrient-rich compost.
- You’ll monitor for contamination, assist with tracking data, and serve as a friendly, welcoming host to our composting community.
- You may be asked to assist with moving filled bins of material weighing 60 pounds. We always offer team lifts; you will never be asked to lift bins if you prefer not to.
- Must be 16 years or older
- Please complete the volunteer waiver from LA Compost in your email after expressing interest.
