Project Leaders: Neighbors Helping Neighbors for 9/11 Day

Become a project leader to support this national day of service as L.A. Works and Eaton Fire Collaborative serve the residents and spaces of Altadena. September 11th is a National Day of Service and Remembrance as we honor those who lost their lives in the attack against our country in 2001 and pay tribute to the thousands of heroes who rose in service. Come get your hands dirty with L.A. Works at this Day of Service event and support our local Eaton Fire Survivors in Altadena.



Why: Many Altadena residents are still navigating the long road to recovery yet now face potential county citations for overgrown brush on their burned lots. Every yard cleared is a step toward restoring stability in Altadena—supporting neighbors through compliance, safety, and a tangible path forward after devastating loss and financial burden.​

Who: As a project leader, you will partner alongside L.A. Works and the Eaton Fire Collaborative. The Eaton Fire Collaborative is a group of local nonprofits, community groups, city, county, and state officials dedicated to helping those affected. Their mission is to provide a coordinated response and clear communication to ensure that resources, assistance, and information reach the people and organizations that need them most.

• As a project leader, you will help lead/manage volunteers in doing the following projects:
  • From 9 AM - 10 AM:
    • Registration booth set-up
    • Snack table set-up
    • Tool preparation and distribution
  • From 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM:
    • General volunteer registration (sign-in attendees, ensure waiver completion, assign team color)
    • PPE and glove distribution
    • Potentially give event kick-off and power tool safety demonstration
  • From 10:30 AM - 1 PM:
    • General volunteer management (oversee volunteer activities and ensure power tool safety compliance)
  • From 1 PM - 2 PM:
    • Registration booth tear-down
    • Snack table tear-down
    • Tool collection
• As a project leader you may also be asked to do the following:
  • Help unload the L.A. Works van and set up the various projects/activities.
  • Ensure volunteers are working safely, efficiently, and are having fun!

• No experience necessary! Training will be provided day-of!
• Must be comfortable with hands-on physical work (i.e. standing for long periods of time, sorting, packing, etc).
• PPE: KN95 and surgical mask, safety glasses, and gloves (all will be provided)
• Ability to lift 15-20lbs (or ask for other tasks by emailing the Opportunity Coordinator below).
• Comfortable with being outdoors
• ATTIRE: Wear comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes that you can move in and don’t mind getting dirty. We also suggest layering clothing for sun protection, a hat, and sunscreen
• Snacks and water will be provided.
