Join Mujeres de la Tierra at La Esquinita Park for a soil building day at this beautiful ethnobotanical garden.

- Learn how sheet mulching can improve soil health, conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and support beneficial soil organisms.
- Contribute to the care of an ethnobotanical garden featuring plants with cultural, medicinal, and ecological significance.
- Take climate action while helping strengthen biodiversity, sustainability, and community connections.
Who: The Mission of Mujeres de la Tierra is to Inspire, Motivate and Engage women and their children to take ownership and leadership of their neighborhood and local community issues.
What to Expect:- Sheet mulching: Help lay and layer materials such as cardboard and organic mulch to build healthy soil and prepare garden beds.
- Soil building: Learn how organic materials break down and contribute nutrients and organic matter to the soil.
- Garden care: Support the ongoing health of the ethnobotanical garden and its diverse plant species.
- Site maintenance: Help keep garden areas healthy, accessible, and ready for future planting and stewardship activities.
What's Required:
- Physical demands: Ability to work outdoors in the sun and perform light-to-moderate physical activity for several hours, including bending, lifting, carrying, and spreading mulch.
- Dress code: Wear comfortable outdoor/garden-appropriate clothing that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes.
- Safety: Bring a filled water bottle and sun protection, including sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.
- Attitude: A positive attitude and readiness to learn and work outdoors!
