Celebrate Earth Day at Magnolia Science Academy Garden

Celebrate Earth Day at Magnolia Science Academy Garden, with your help we can maintain and expand the school garden.

Why: By volunteering at our Earth Day Celebration, you’ll:

• Help create a welcoming, vibrant space where students, parents and friends connect with nature, learn about plants, maintain and expand the  school garden benefiting students, pollinators, and the larger community. 
• Your support will ensure that students will grow into great environmental stewards for their community, while learning about the importance of biodiversity, climate resilient plants and food security systems. 

Who: In partnership with California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers (Office of the Governor), L.A. Works is on a mission to amplify environmental justice initiatives supporting the communities most impacted by climate change.  Magnolia Science Academy is committed to maintain and expand the School Garden where students can learn and feel a sense of environmental stewardship, get more knowledge about California native plants and enjoy the growing process.

What to Expect:
  ●  Volunteers will assist with setting up and organizing activity stations.
  ●  Painting of planter boxes and revitalizing the garden.
  ●  Weeding, planting, spreading mulch and watering plants.
  ●  Seed ball making.
  ●  Plant native or drought-tolerant plants.
  ●  Fun in a school community with students, parents, teachers and interaction with                volunteers.
  ●  Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

What’s Required:

• Time/shift commitment: Wednesday, April 22^nd, 2026, From 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm
• Must be comfortable with hands-on physical work (i.e. cleaning, pulling weeds, shoveling, and planting) and comfortable working around children.
• Physical demands: Ability to be in the sun and perform light physical activity for several hours.
• Dress code: We recommend that volunteers wear comfortable outdoor/garden-appropriate clothing that can get dirty and closed toed shoes.
• Safety protocols: Make sure to bring a filled water bottle and sun protection (sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc).
• A positive attitute and readiness to work outdoors.
