DOVIA-LA Member Meeting: Training Volunteers to Lead Volunteers

Join DOVIA-LA in July for a hybrid meeting presented by Betsy Storm!

Hosted By: DOVIA-LA (Directors of Volunteers in Agencies – Los Angeles) is a professional membership association for individuals who lead, manage, and recruit volunteers for a diverse range of nonprofit organizations. DOVIA-LA members meet bi-monthly to network, build skills, and learn about current issues in the field of volunteer management. DOVIA-LA is a program of L.A. Works.

• Attendees will be led through "Training Volunteers to Lead Volunteers’ program by Betsy Storm, Volunteer Engagement Manager at Food Foward and DOVIA-LA Advisory Committee Member.  
• The one-hour presentation and training will lead attendees through the many different aspects of trainings volunteers, such as the breakdown for organizing volunteer event leader's vs general volunteers. She will share what challenges may arise as well as the benefits of seeking event leaders first for volunteer opportunities.  
• ​This meeting will be offered in a hybrid setting; members may choose to attend virtually or in-person. We recommend attending in person for the best experience. 

• During this meeting, volunteer engagement professionals will have opportunities to engage with one another in group discussions, and we will take time for community support and to hear from members looking to learn about experience with an issue or resource need. 

• Betsy Storm is the volunteer engagement manager at Food Forward as well as a devoted DOVIA-LA Advisory Committee member. Previously, Betsy worked with Better Angels, a nonprofit supporting low-income L.A. high school students through the college admissions and transition process. Her students, who often battled hunger and poverty, confirmed her desire to work toward a better local food system for communities in need. Betsy began volunteering at an urban farm in her neighborhood and eventually found Food Forward.
