Volunteer with a Food Distribution Center
This is an eligible Daisy Chain Reaction volunteer opportunity. Volunteers who are 18 years of age or older and who opt in during registration for the promotion running between July 22, 2026 at 7:00 AM PST and August 20, 2026 at 7:00 PM PST may participate in a giveaway for a chance to win two (2) GA tickets to Daisy Chain Fields 2026. Participation in the giveaway is completely optional, and you are welcome to volunteer whether or not you choose to enter. See the Official Rules for complete eligibility requirements and terms.
Participants in our Distribution Center volunteer shifts process nutritious food for distribution to our Partner Network and the communities they serve!
Why: Every shift at our Distribution Center helps nutritious food reach families across Orange County. Your hands-on work sorting and inspecting food directly fuels our Partner Network's ability to serve the community.
Who: In collaboration with our partners, Second Harvest Home provides dignified, equitable and consistent access to nutritious food, creating a foundation for community health.
What to Expect:- Repeated bending, walking, and moving
- Sort and inspect donated produce, packaged foods, and other goods for quality and safety
- Pack and organize food items into crates and boxes for distribution
- Move and stack crates/boxes as needed throughout the shift
- Follow food safety and handling guidelines provided by staff
- Work collaboratively with fellow volunteers and Distribution Center staff to meet shift goals
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Report any damaged goods or safety concerns to on-site staff
- Tables and chairs are available to take breaks as needed
- Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start of the shift to allow time for check-in.
- Leave valuable items at home, as Second Harvest Food Bank is not responsible for lost or stolen items
- Please check volunteer confirmation email for additional details.
- Please make sure you are bringing your printed volunteer waiver provided by Second Harvest Home to your volunteer shift.
- What to Wear/Bring:

Closed-toed shoes are required for all participants.
We suggest wearing easily removable layers, as the temperature in the distribution center varies.
